Home Remedy - Cough Syrup

This Cough Syrup/Decongestant has been hugely popular this spring so I thought I'd share it for anyone after a quick and natural remedy.
I find this recipe to be at least as effective as store bought cough syrups, without of course the synthetic colours, flavours and other nasties, not too mention drugs such as Pseudoephedrine, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride and Dextromethorphan, just to name a few.

Chemical Free Spring Cleaning

With Spring well on its way it can be tempting to pull out the basket of hazardous chemicals from under the kitchen sink (food for thought - is this also where you keep your potatoes?) but when was the last time you had a look at what is actually in your favourite cleaning products and air fresheners? If its occurred to you that perhaps these aren't the sort of products you want to spray over every surface of your home, you may be interested to know that most cleaners could easily be replaced with a handful of ingredients that you probably have lying around the house. Baking soda mixed with a little water makes a great replacement for scrubs and cream cleaners, or sprinkle on carpets before vacuuming to remove odours. Use your leftover citrus peels to make an easy all purpose cleaner; cover with white vinegar and let sit for a week or two, then transfer it to a spray bottle. Vinegar also makes a great substitute for fabric softeners (minus the residue they leave), and at a fraction of the price!

January is a special month. In January many people, having indulged over the Christmas - New Year break, will wake up and realise that their work pants are a little snug, there sleep patterns a little less regular, and their 8am Yoga class has been replaced with a 10am coffee break. Fortunately, a trip to the store reveals rows of fresh summer fruits and from hereon it is perfectly acceptable to bring a salad to a party instead of a bottle of wine. January is the month to make everything right again; the salad month.

The most daunting thing I think I have faced in cooking with whole foods is jointing a chicken, but if you're game to give it a go this recipe is dead easy and definitely more than the sum of its parts.
